| Q: What is the difference between
the subconscious (SC), superconscious, unconscious and conscious
mind ? |
| A: This is an interesting question.
When you read about hypnosis, you will see various words used.
You can decide for yourself which terms describe what you are
feeling. Many of us stick to the conscious (C) and subconscious
(SC), and the SC can be further divided into the superconscious,
or even the unconscious. I always think of the unconscious as
being even further from consciousness than sleep, and therfore
not an appropriate term for hypnosis. The sleep state is
not hypnosis, but the SC can hear things in that state, so it is
just a different level of consciousness. The same is true for
the unconcsious state, and thus some individuals having
surgery will hear what has been said during surgery. Your
hypnotist will explain things to you in the way they understand
these concepts. Here is a chart that gives you come visual
ideas of what we are talking about.:

| The conscious mind is the more
interactive and aware mind, that is directly involved with
conversation, and generally associated with the left brain. When
you are learning to ride a bike, the conscious mind is busy
absorbing new information and learning to ride the bike. |
| The Subconscious mind is the mind
working behind the scenes and functions in the background.
Using the same bike analogy, the SC is what controls riding a
bike once you have learned how to do it. You just ride
automatically...therefore the
SC never forgets. The SC is usually associated with their
right brain. |
| Q: How does hypnosis work? |
| A: Hypnosis works with the
subconscious mind, which is the part of your mind that stores
all of your past experiences and feelings. This part of
your mind believes whatever it is told, so when suggestions are
given during hypnosis, the subconscious mind begins to act on
those suggestions until you see the results in your life. |
| Q: What is a trance? |
| A: A trance is a state of
extreme relaxation and super-focused concentration. |
| Q: Can I be made to tell secrets or
do weird things in hypnosis? |
| A: No one can make you do
anything you don't want to do. You cannot violate your own
moral code while in hypnosis. If a suggestion doesn't feel right
to you, your subconscious will reject it |
| A good example of this is if you are
in trance and someone suggests you open your eyes, you might
choose to not open your eyes because you are very comfortable
with them shut. You are in control, as it is felt that all
hypnosis is self hypnosis. |
| Q. Does the SC accept everything it
hears ? |
|
A: The subconscious is very literal,
and takes words at face value. So when you use words like
"try", "wish", and "hope", the subconscious considers these
words neutral - or even worse - as a possibility for failure.
So in the very best outcome, you may get the results you want,
but they would be weak or limited, not lasting very long.
|
| It is best to use strong positive
suggestions to guarantee the results you want: "You will
---", "You can ---", "You do ---". In this way, the
subconscious sees no margin for error, and no way for anything
to happen except what is being suggested. These words
demonstrate success in reaching your goals. |
